On Tuesday 17th October 2006 the Pelly Concert Orchestra was heard on BBC Radio 3 as part of their Listen Up! series in which they featured a number of amateur orchestras, and invited listeners to send in recordings of amateur orchestras they might be involved with.
Just before the end of the evening's live Radio 3 broadcast at about 9.25pm, the presenter said, "We're going to hear Leroy Anderson's Bugler's Holiday, one of those pieces according to Conductor Nick Barnard, that plays itself - if you can play it!"
Then they played Bugler's Holiday, recorded at our concert in July 2006 - click here to listen:
"Well, what a fantastic brass section there. If that's a representative illustration of an amateur orchestra, then I think things are pretty good. Leroy Anderson's Bugler's Holiday played by the Pelly Concert Orchestra. If you live around the Hampshire/Surrey border and you play an instrument, you might want to join yourself. The presenter of the next programme then opened the show by saying, "For those who were listening to the previous concert, I think Night Waves should always be preceded by trumpets".
